Muma Artisan Jams is a Licensed Cottage Food Producer in Gonzales, California, located in Monterey County and was established on August 5, 2020 by Mary “Frances” Muma and Maria Laura Muma, a mother-in-law & daughter-in-law duo. Our commitment is to provide unique and traditional artisan jams using all-natural ingredients.

Frances enjoys spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family and friends. She also enjoys gardening and tending to her fruit trees, (apricot, peach and plum). For years, these trees have produced an abundance of fruit that she would share her bounty with the neighborhood however, there was still a lot of fruit that would go bad. Ugg!  In 2015 Frances decided to try her hand at making jam using the excess fruit from these trees.  After researching many recipes and learning the differences between jams, jellies, marmalades and preserves she jumped in and made her first all-natural apricot jam.  With great surprise it was rather good.

Maria has 20+ years of experience in sales and customer service, most recently, in the agricultural industry.  She is a true people person that enjoys working with and helping others.  She is a wife and mother of 3 young children and loves personal challenges.  Maria enjoys learning about jams, jellies and marmalades and hearing how people enjoy their jams. She draws inspiration from these ideas to come up with the design of each individual flavor.

One evening, late September 2020, (an incredible trying year), the family was enjoying a bowl of ice cream with freshly made apricot jam drizzled on top. Maria suggested selling the jam online.  She said it was tasty and believed people would enjoy homemade jams.  Frances, although doubtful and with a little encouragement, agreed to Maria’s crazy suggestion and with her first marketing post online, they began to sell their jams and within hours were sold out.

Muma Artisan Jams has grown from its original 4 jams, (apricot, peach, plum and strawberry) to over 80 different combinations of jams, jellies, marmalades and fruit butters.  As the fruit seasons change, so will their “Menu”.

Muma Artisan Jams can be found at the South Salinas Farmers Market on Saturdays and Mid-Valley Carmel Farmers Market on Sunday.  For current “Menu” and orders visit us at: @muma_artisan_jams on Instagram.
